This is from last year's race,
but it looked pretty much the same last night!
I warmed up for about ten minutes, and I still felt a little bit stiff, but I decided not to overdo it since I'd taken a spin class earlier in the day. I hung out with a few friends from SFRRC and before we knew it we were lining up for the start. Some last minute good news - they had been able to get the course certified that day - and we were on our way.
Well, I probably shouldn't have taken that spin class...
As you can tell by the following pace chart, my first mile went really well. It was tough, but I felt great. In fact, I probably should have gone out a little bit slower. My second mile was really hard (especially after we were forced to run through the sprinklers - something that I didn't really enjoy). You can see the spikes in my pace where I walked for a couple of seconds and where I stopped to tie my shoe. The third mile was pure torture. I think I only got passed by about 5 people (and 2 dogs), but I was breathing so hard that I was on the verge of puking. I walked for a few seconds there, but I didn't want to give up my sub-8, so I dug back in. Thank God I did, because I came in at 24:23, a 7:50 pace!
I'm not totally pleased with my performance, and I'm sure this would have been much easier (and probably faster) had I not run 6 miles last night and had I not gone to spin class, but hey, I got my first sub-8 race! Time to start training harder!!!
